Hello 2010 :: Goals & Dreams

Goals & Dreams

Hello, hello! Monday... Most of us are back to work today, getting back into the routine after the holidays. It's tough, isn't it?? I've found myself craving all kinds of holiday treats, daydreaming and being easily distracted with everything but the work that I need to get done!

One thing I did do today? {I can hardly believe that I'm saying this} :: I have begun training for my very first {and probably ever} half-marathon! I haven't run since middle school and usually find myself short of breath after a trip up the stairs... so I have a lot of work to do before the race in April. :) I've had many friends participate in marathons and always found myself thinking, "I could never ever do anything like that." Well, I'm going to prove myself wrong this time. I don't care how long it takes me to cross that finish line, I am just determined and excited to do it.

I have many goals for the year - would love for you to share some of yours, too!

1. Become a better cook! I'm ready to experiment more! Any yummy recipes I should try?
Become a better cook!

2. Read and watch as many classic books and movies as possible! Recommendations?

3. Take lots of road trips! Savannah, Charleston, Louisville & Birmingham are just a few on the list...

4. Learn more about photography and takes lots and lots of photos! I'm going to try to document life a bit better here. And I just ordered this beauty!
Canon G10 Camera
5. Team up with lots of creative people. I've got some fun ideas in the works and am excited to collaborate with other artists and bring these thoughts to life!

I'll share a few more of my goals with you tomorrow {I have quite the list}. I'm hoping that by posting them here, I'll feel a bit more motivated and maybe even we'll share the same ones! Hope your holidays were great!

I am running the half too, eek. I am a terrible runner, but I will finish even if it takes me three hours...

Thanks for the encouragement!! I would love any and all recommendations... :)

Morgan - I'd be thrilled if I finished in 3 hours at this rate. I've got a long way to go. Ha!

Wow! These are great! I just actually posted mine last night on my blog and we have a few similar items (I.e. running and taking more photos). The trips and cooking are great ideas! I'd also love to meet/mingle with more creative people... just wish it was in person as opposed to online which seems to be the trend with me.

I think you'll love running. I started last year (after also going from not being able to run 2min). There is absolutely nothing better than the time you get to yourself outdoors watching the world as you run by.

Oh, I'm also thinking about getting a new camera, what made you pick that one?

Jon and I are wanting to visit Savannah and Charleston too!!! I haven't been to either in years, and they are so beautiful!

As for classics, my favorites that I read over and over - Pride & Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Sense & Sensibility. I'm a sucker for Austen and both Bronte sisters. :)

oooh I love these suggestions... Thanks so much everyone! And it's SO fun to see that we share many similar goals, too! Please send links to your blogs if you posted any goals & resolutions there. :)

I just posted about this on my blog too! I would like to one day run the nyc marathon, so last year I began running and have gotten up to 10k now. Hope to get in marathon shape this year.

And Classics are my fav. For books: ANY Jane Austen but my repeat favs are Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion. For films: Absolutely anything with Audrey Hepburn. Also The Ginger Roger/Fred Astaire movies are fun.

Hm, how 'bout a road trip to San Diego? And please do read Phantom of the Opera, if you haven't already. I too have dreams of growing out my hair, we'll see how that will go. And please teach me a thing or two about photography! And have you checked out 101cookbooks.com yet? And I'd be more than happy to participate in a giveaway, if you'll have me!

I've loved reading this and the comments as I have a habit of making new goals each year, I love to hear others! One of mine is the same as yours -- books! You should post a list of the ones you'd like to get through this year. :) Have fun and happy reading!

oh my goodness. I have SO many book recommendations. ...
do you know if you prefer older lit v. 20th cent?
Maybe start with Howard's End by E.M. Forster (it's British turn-of-the-century) for a good balance of old v new.
20th century I love Steinbeck, plus a bunch of other stuff.
19th century I really like Henry James and Edith Wharton
18th century ... Jane Austen. Obviously.
Seriously. I love books.
Email me with questions.
