Sweet Everythings

Wishing I were here today... feeling a little scattered and uninspired. Taking the day for myself tomorrow - so very needed! If you haven't taken a day for yourself in awhile, please consider joining me. :)

This Weekend, I...

One of my new favorite blogs, Everyday Musings, documents the life of the adorable Olivia Rae - English major by day, cupcake icer by night. Olivia Rae shares the beautiful things that make her happy, and I'm constantly inspired, page by page. I love the way she records her weekend adventures and thought I'd have my hand at my own version this week.

This Weekend, I...
This weekend, I...

- almost had a wreck when a spider started crawling up my window in the car. I haaaate spiders!

- spent hours in the park dreaming, picnicking, and fantasizing about the future with the hubs.

- had lots and lots of sugar, mainly Milk Duds and Sour Patch Kids.

- received the cutest dress from Travis that I love love love.

- watched many many episodes of Friday Night Lights. We're just now getting into season one and we can't get enough {and I may have gotten a crush on Tim Riggins}!

- stayed up way too late.

- started to tidy up around the house... but of course never finished. :)

Thanks for the fun idea, Olivia Rae!

Pssst... She also has the cutest Etsy store where she sells pretty little cake stands. Definitely adding one to my Christmas wishlist!

One [Beautiful] Year

I'm going to be quick because I'm heading out to enjoy the gorgeous day with my love... but today is our first wedding anniversary! It was the perfect evening last November and I couldn't be happier to spend the rest of my life with this amazing man.

One Year

Dear hubs, thank you for an amazing beginning - full of challenges, fun, laughs and maybe even some crazy dancing. You mean the world to me and I am forever blessed to have you in my life. I love you!

Some details & photos from our special day can be found here.

Fashion Friday: A New Look

First of all... allow me to introduce you: Pennyweight has a new look! What do you think? Take a look around, make yourself at home and please let me know your thoughts! My new header was designed by Alyson Fox, and the blog layout by Rainy Day Templates. I couldn't have chosen better ladies to work with - they were both so lovely and helpful - not to mention talented!

Picking up where we left off last week... I wanted to add a few more fall "must-haves" to your list.

Cozy Dreams

Is anyone else SO excited for the holidays? November is my favorite time of year {check back this weekend to see one of the reasons why}! I completely adore the holiday season - lots of delicious food, family time, fires in the fireplace, gingerbread houses, pretty lights and merry decorations!

I have already been hard at work on my wishlist and have even begun to pull out the holiday music classics {my personal favorites are Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald}. Something about the ever-changing leaves and cozy sweaters is so calming and puts me in the best mood!

But... I need your help. I need tips for making my small nest festive this year - I love homemade goodies but don't want to overdo it! What are your tricks? I have some things in mind but figured you creative souls would have some fresh ideas and perspective! Please, do share!

Sweet garland.

Wee little fabric acorns.

Did anyone recognize Iris' precious cottage from The Holiday in the top photo? Love that movie! :)

Happy Halloween!
I couldn't be more happy that it's finally the weekend and that we gain an hour of sleep!

Tonight I will be spending my Halloween with these boys. I cannot cannot wait!

Fashion Friday: Fall Styling Tips

Sweaters, hoodies, boots, tights... Sure, you might think of these basic things when you think fall fashion. But today, I'm going to show you some playful and unexpected things to try this season! The last thing we need is boring in the coming chilly months - so spice things up with these fall essentials::

1. Thigh High Boots

Higher, higher, higher. Try thigh high boots this season for an unexpected, lady-like look. Pick a simple, wearable boot to pair with a modest hemline. Keyword: Modest!

Smart Choice:
$185 Jeffrey Campbell Over The Knee Boot available here.

2. Purple

Purple is all over the place this season - but I'm especially loving this eggplant color! I've found that this color really looks great on most skin tones, too!

Smart Choice:
$38 Solid Boyfriend Cardigan available here.

3. Military Jacket

The military look is HUGE for fall... I mean, huge! Pair it with some skinny jeans and a simple blouse. This jacket makes a statement enough on its own!

Smart Choice:
$37.80 Bell Hop Blazer available here.
{I also have some cute, affordable options available on Troubadour Vintage}

4. Bold & Patterned Tights

Buy yourself a great pair {or three... or four!} of tights this fall! Such an inexpensive, smart way to add a "pop" to your wardrobe. Don't be afraid to try something brighter {bold red is in!} and play with textures.

Smart Choice:
$14 Open Crochet Tight available here.
