[Fashion] A Day In The Life

Most of you are well aware of my love for Zooey Deschanel. If you're not familiar with Miss Z (a soon to be Mrs.), she is an actress who is pretty well-known for her movies, as well as her indie vintage style and just so happens to have the singing voice of an angel. She has amazing taste and continues to surprise me with her always adorable fashion-forward choices.

Generally speaking, she tends to go for an ultra-feminine look with an old school Hollywood charm. When I think Zooey... I picture fun colors, bows, hairpieces, girly details, sophisticated flats and an ever-vintage victorian allure.

Here's what you need to nab her dashing look in no time at all!

Here's To Happiness

I love these "happy lists" that Naomi has been posting on her lovely blog lately. This is a week where I've really needed happy lists. Please do share yours! Mine is coming next week {when things hopefully slow down a bit}.

Here's today's list from Heather of 10 things that make her terribly happy:
  1. browsing the travel guidebook section of the local bookstore
  2. receiving hand-written mail from an old friend
  3. the sound of sprinklers in the summer
  4. thunderstorms
  5. buying old postcards at the flea market
  6. candid photos
  7. organizing my closet
  8. salmon/avocado rolls
  9. the start of a new season
  10. a romantic dinner at a sidewalk cafe

All Twisted Up

pretty braidsMmm braids. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to best braid my hair now that it's short. Chopping it was so not a good idea. I'm daydreaming of pretty braids like this. Maybe I'll look here for some inspiration.

Sil·hou·ette

Jenny Lee Fowler creates incredible custom silhouettes on tiny leaves! She also can create them on birch bark, wooden plaques or custom papers. What a unique and special handmade gift these would make!

[Just Do It]

Angus & Julia Stone... AmazonMP3's $1.99 Deal of the Day. Trust me, it's good. Hurry, it won't be this cheap for very much longer!

Hair Envy

Look at this hair! Absolutely gorgeous. This girl reminds me a bit of Rachel Bilson, no?

[Fashion] Blacklisted

The LBD is the ultimate wardrobe staple. The little black dress has always and will always remain a must-have classic for your closet. I'm noticing one of the hottest trends for fall is an edgier version of the LBD. I've seen a lot of one shoulder dresses, so I especially love the one-shoulder as well as leather and bandage-inspired little black dresses. For a really glamorous fall look, add towering heels or chain-wrapped booties.1. Alexander Wang One Shoulder Goddess Dress 2. Poltock & Walsh Dress With Ruffled Skirt 3. Black Joliquer Strapless Dress by Paul & Joe Sister 4. Paul & Joe Sleeveless Tux Dress 5. Hervé Léger Vivien Cutout Bandage Dress 6. Alexander McQueen Contrast Panel Bustier Dress 7. The Great Outdoors

Outdoor Spaces
One day I will have a gorgeous outdoor space... whether that be a screened-in porch, garden, sunroom or the like. I love pretty, relaxing getaways like this where you can kick off your shoes and grab a good book. Did I mention I started Harry Potter? The hubs is a huge fan and has been encouraging me to read them for quite some time. I only agreed to one book, but I must admit, now that I've started, I just may have to read them all! What are you reading these days and where would you love to escape to with your book?

[Fashion] Innovator & Icon

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same." - Coco Chanel

I have been obsessing over the preview for Coco Before Chanel. In honor of the lovely Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and the fashion empire that she built, I thought I'd dedicate this post to her and share some of my favorite current looks from Chanel. She has dressed the classiest of ladies, including Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O. Her timeless taste and impeccable style has forever changed the way women dress.

Wanted: Romantic Getaway

A romantic getaway is calling my name... but unfortunately not until November for our one year anniversary! Come faster, November! How dreamy would this place off the coast of Normandy be? Yes, please.

Tomorrow's Collectibles, Today

My friend recently told me about Miriam Haskell's amazing jewelry, and I've been infatuated ever since {it's all made entirely by hand!}. I go in and out of being an "accessory girl," but looking at these photos makes me want to run to my jewelry box and pile it on. If only everything I owned was so breathtaking...

Fresh vs. Fabric

I loooove having fresh flowers in my home, but how irresistible are these fabric roses from Allen Company Inc?

Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July, friends! I've been enjoying my long weekend and am heading to Atlanta today {yet again} with some friends to see a show. What will you be up to? I hope you have a fun and safe holiday! See you all Monday!

How Would You Wear It?

I hope you all have enjoyed this week-long series as much as I have! Lesson learned: You really can get so many different looks out of basic, staple items. Find a great pair of shorts, a simple tank or a pair of jeans that you can dress up, down or any which way.

I'll end this week with how I would "put the pieces together" and would love to see how you'd prefer to wear it as well. If you'd like to create your own set like these (at Polyvore), please send them to me! I may post some of my favorites from you lovely readers in the coming weeks...

Here's how I'd wear it for a stroll in the park on a sunny day, eating my Las Paletas Chai Tea popsicle (if you're from Nashville, you know how amazing these are!):

Chloé Leather Heloise Tote With Plaited Handles (1,039 GBP), T by Alexander Wang Mini Pocket Tank ($74), Clear Lens Granny Glasses (15 GBP), Repetto Boots ($469), Elizabeth and James Spring Bell Skirt ($295).

Thanks again to my fabulous friends who contributed this week... Joy, Carissa, Melissa, Lindsey and Jill as well as Roberta from Camp Comfort for the inspiration! Have a happy holiday weekend!

Putting The Pieces Together :: Part 5

We're almost finished with this happy series, which has showcased one tank in multiple ways! It's so fun to see how others put things together to represent their own personal style. If you haven't already, be sure to check out Camp Comfort's "How I'd Wear It" series, where this fabulous idea was born.

I absolutely adore Jill's blog Just Dandy... She is so crafty and takes the most fun pictures! Just this week she posted a DIY project that I can't wait to try, a super cute case for storing and showcasing jewelry. Her blog is full of inspiring photos, stories and crafts. She also has some precious nieces and nephews and likes to knit, sew, embroider and crochet. I must admit, just looking at her little baby creations {in her Etsy shop here} make me dream of being a mother much sooner than I really want to be. :) I mean, seriously... how darling are those baby Mary Janes? Why does everything look so much cuter small?

Putting The Pieces Together :: Part 4

Lindsey Hornkohl is Mrs. Creative or, as she says, "...an artist who spends her time seriously devoted to watercolor, not so seriously devoted to murals, engaged quite often in various crafts and quilting and creating for my home." She has a seriously beautiful Etsy shop, and I'm currently addicted to the Mini Harmonica Pendant and Bicycle Felted Zipper Pouch.

I love how casual and simple the look that she chose is. It's nothing over-the-top and still comes across so very cute and Californian. She lives in gorgeous San Diego and says she would wear this outfit for a day trip down to Balboa Park. If only we could all get to sunny Balboa, CA so easily {and fashionably!}.

I would wear this for a day trip to Balboa Park, as I cruise around the Spanish Art Village and stop in all the local artisans' galleries. I'd stop and paint a little vignette or take a snapshot for later. My chai tea latte and Regina Spektor would keep me company in San Diego... until I head off to meet the husband for a boogy boarding sesh at the beach.
